Sunday School

Sunday School is a discipleship program for the whole family, adjacent to Sunday morning worship. Grow in your Christian walk with other believers, as we sit under the Word together.

Adult classes meet from 9:45 - 10:35 am in various rooms throughout the church.

We typically offer 5 different adult classes per semester (in 2 7-week blocks) in the following areas:

Redeemer Explored — introduces Redeemer Church & the Reformed faith
Bible — studies various books of the Bible
Theology — studies different doctrinal truths
Ministry Skills — equips God’s people for ministry
Practical Living — discusses godly living in everyday life

Redeemer Explored, our Inquirers Class, discusses the vision and mission of Redeemer Church and is a required class for church membership. For those unable to attend every Sunday, some material can be found online.

Children’s classes (ages 4+) are taught by skilled volunteers in a fun, safe environment. Children's classrooms are located on the second level of the church.

Nursery (ages 0-3) is available.

Communicants' Class (usually ages 9-13), is a six-week-long class offered two times a year—fall and spring. Children of Redeemer members (i.e., Non-communing Members) have the opportunity to talk through the vows of the church, make a credible profession of faith, and be admitted to partake in the Lord’s Table as Communing Members.

Sharing our Grief

Facilitators: Quita Sauerwein, Zack Owens, Tu Combs

Each of us eventually face some kind of grief or know others who are grieving. Many grow up learning to avoid or suppress feelings of grief or loss.

Do you want a better grasp of God’s empathy for the grieving? Do you wish to understand how we can compassionately walk with friends and loved ones through the grieving (and healing!) process? Do you desire to be better prepared for the inevitable grief journeys in your own life?

This Sunday School class will use videos and material from GriefShare as a framework for exploring what scripture says about grief. (GriefShare is a grief recovery support program that our church uses.) Topics include managing grief-related emotions like loneliness, anxiety, sadness, anger, and regret; coping with changes in your life and relationships; recognizing what’s normal in grief; and handling feeling “stuck” or hopeless.

Culture Making

‘Culture is what we make of the world,’ says Ken Meyers. As Christians, we are called to cultivate and create—and we do that where we live, work, worship, and play.

In this class, we’ll use Andy Crouch’s book, Culture Making, as our launching point to think about how the whole Bible helps us think about our calling as ‘creative cultivators’ in all areas of life.

What are you making of the world?

You are making something of the world. It’s inescapable. We make omelets and finger paintings, stories and meaning. We create because we are created in the image of the Creator. And what we make shapes our culture. Your family has a culture. Your workplace has a culture. Every sphere in which you exist has a culture, and the only way to change culture is by making more.

This class helps us to be intentional as we make something of the world. Join us as we make culture together!

Gospel Conversations

Interested in having more meaningful conversations about your faith? Join us for our 'Gospel Conversations' Sunday School class! We'll explore practical tools and biblical principles to help you share the Gospel with confidence and clarity. Think of it as a chance to learn together in an encouraging environment.

We'll be using key chapters from Preston Perry's 'How to Tell the Truth' as a guide, sparking discussions and providing valuable insights. Whether you're just starting to explore how to talk about your faith or you're looking to refine your approach, this class is for you.

We'll focus on creating authentic connections and fostering genuine dialogue, so you can feel more comfortable and equipped to share the Gospel. Come join the conversation!

Jonah: You Can’t Outrun the Grace of God

Teacher: Brian Gault
Location: Sanctuary

Jonah is about a violent city, a resistant prophet, and a merciful God. In 58 verses, there’s a storm at sea, the conversion of pagan sailors, a prayer in the belly of a fish, the repentance of Israel’s archenemy, and a prophet who’s angry at God.

The story begins with Jonah running from the word of the Lord and the presence of the Lord. At the heart of the story is the mercy of God, that not only forgives the vilest of sinners, but also relentlessly pursues the heart of a prophet steeped in judgmental nationalism.

To rescue Jonah, God hurls a storm, and appoints a fish, a plant, a worm, and a scorching wind—all show Jonah (and by extension us!) the unsearchable depth of the grace of God.

Redeemer Explored

Would you like to know more about Redeemer Church? Are you interested in becoming a member? If so, you need to take this class. Pastor Elbert McGowan, along with the elders, will teach this 7-week introductory course on the ins and outs of Redeemer Church and how you can get involved.

If you are ready to join Redeemer or have further questions, you will have the opportunity to meet with an elder at the end of the class (May 11).

Youth Sunday School (6th-12th)

2025 Spring Youth Sunday School, will begin on Jan 26 and conclude on May 11.

Middle School (6th-8th): Ten Commandments

After God delivered Israel from Egypt, He gave the Ten Commandments to them. But what for? And does the law have any use today? We will address questions like these and more, such as, “What is the purpose of the law? How does Jesus relate to the law? What does God’s law mean for me today?” By studying God’s law, we will see the heart of the Law-maker, how Jesus fulfills the law, and how God’s law applies to us today. If you are in 6th-12th grade, come join us as we study the Ten Commandments this Spring!

Habits of the Household

Teachers: Brian Gault, Chad Berry
Location: Sanctuary

Based on Justin Whitmel Earley’s Habits of the Household, this class explores how everyday family routines can be transformed into intentional practices of spiritual formation.

Over seven weeks, we examine key habits—waking, mealtimes, discipline, screen time, family devotions, work, and bedtime—considering how each can shape both parents and children in the way of Christ. Participants will reflect on their own household rhythms, engage in group discussion, and be challenged to implement small but meaningful changes rooted in grace.

Each session pairs practical ideas with biblical wisdom, aiming to cultivate habits that form hearts, not just behaviors. This class is ideal for parents, caregivers, and anyone seeking to integrate faith into the ordinary moments of family life.

In Pursuit of Biblical Creativity

Teacher: Andy Sauerwein
Location: Fellowship Hall

Romans 12 compels us to “offer our bodies as living sacrifices” in the pursuit of God’s good purpose, rather than being “conformed to the pattern of this world.” Genesis 1 calls us to participate as stewards by imitating God’s creative demonstration, “putting things into good order.”

In this class, we will seek to inhabit a framework for navigating this pursuit of “good order.” We will consider our roles as explorers, makers, and participants in God’s eternal purpose as he forms (and re-forms) our affections to resonate with his desires. Through our “creative activity,” we can “taste and see that the Lord is good” by imaginatively pursuing beauty, goodness, and truth in every area of our lives, doing all that we do “as unto the Lord.”

The Book of Acts

The book of Acts is the story of the ascent of Jesus Christ, the descent of the Spirit, and the dawn of the church. Through studying Acts, God’s people see firsthand how God formed and sustained a new people under the administration of the new covenant. There is much in this book to teach us about the Holy Spirit, church life, living amidst persecution, unity in diversity, and ultimately about Christ Himself. In this class we will explore the biblical - theological categories of Acts and hope to mine the riches of the wisdom of this book for living faithfully under King Jesus in our own context.
