As the Church, we are the Body of Christ – the hands and feet of Jesus in this world until He returns
in glory. Like our physical body, certain activities contribute to our health and wholeness (things
commanded in scripture like Worship, Discipleship, Service, Giving, etc). This is why we speak often at
Redeemer about how we want every member to have the opportunity to worship, learn, give, connect, and serve.
However, in a fallen world, physical bodies and church bodies can become sick and wounded.
Consequently, in Redeemer Church, we think of Congregational Care as the responsive/reactive
part of the Body. If the preaching of the Word is the nervous system, missions is the muscular system,
prayer is the respiratory system, discipleship the skeletal system, giving is the circulatory system – then Congregational Care is the immune system. We seek to respond with healing and hope to the parts of Christ’s body that hurt.
