Country Profile: Sudan

After years of persecution under the dictatorship of former president Omar al Bashir, the Church in Sudan currently faces both opportunity and challenge. Following the overthrow of Bashir’s government in the Spring of 2019, the country continues to work towards the development of a more democratic and pluralistic society. This has in turn created opportunities for the church to evangelize more freely and has paved the way for the renewal of mission work among the countries estimated 130 unreached people groups. Despite these new opportunities, unrest in various areas, particularly in Darfur, continue to present significant challenges to the Church. Please be in prayer for the Sudanese Church as it seeks to seize these new opportunities, whilst also bearing up against the continuing challenges. Pray that through their witness, as well as the witness of foreign workers, the gospel would be preached among the many who have yet to hear it.
