Country Profile: Eastern Niger

This week we are praying for the church in Eastern Niger as it continues to face the growing threat of Islamic militancy. This is a threat that has been increasing significantly in the greater Sahel region in the past few years. Christian communities are frequently singled out for attack and churches are systematically burned down by the militants. The Church in Eastern Niger in particular has seen a spike in violence in recent months, leading to the displacement of many. Coupled with the loss of loved ones and property, the violence also threatens the coming planting season which in turn threatens next years food source. Please be in prayer for God’s people in Niger and the greater Sahel at this extremely difficult and trying time – that the hand of the wicked would be stayed; that God would give his church the strength not only to endure but to flourish; and that the gospel would be proclaimed all the more.
