SUMMARY:Compassion & Conviction Discussions Begin
DESCRIPTION:What? For 8 weeks this summer\, we will have two discussion groups around Justin Giboney’s book\, Compassion & Conviction. \nCompassion & Conviction is a book about Christians engaging the public square. It is not pro-right or pro-left; it is neither conservative nor liberal. It approaches the discussion with a three-cornered biblical foundation: The Great Commission (Matt 28: ‘Make disciples…’)\, The Great Commandment (Matt 22: ‘Love God’ and ‘love neighbor’)\, and The Great Requirement (Micah 6: ‘Do justice\, love mercy…’). \nIt thinks about Christianity as both a lifestyle and a worldview and challenges readers to hold human dignity over demeaning rhetoric\, to embrace love and truth\, pursue moral order and social justice. It encourages us to listen to others with compassion\, while still holding to our convictions. \nWhy? As an intentionally multiethnic church\, Redeemer is blessed with beautiful diversity. \nThis particular cultural moment seems to be filled with tribalism and division\, cancel culture\, and inflamed rhetoric. These issues intensified in the midst of a pandemic where it became commonplace to take pot-shots over social media instead of sitting with those different than you and listening with compassion\, care\, and concern. The image of God in others is all too often minimalized and overlooked. \nWhat would it look like to have charitable conversations with those who are different than us? What if that started in the church? \nCompassion & Conviction is not a perfect book. Other than the Bible\, none are. All have flaws. But we want to create a space to have a discussion\, to read with discernment\, and to move towards those who are different than you. \nWe want to replace inflamed rhetoric with listening and understanding\, cancel culture with compassion\, and tribalism with a deep recognition that belonging to the tribe of Jesus trumps every other tribe. We want to build a foundation that will propel Redeemer towards greater unity as the body of Christ\, even when our culture flounders in division. \nWhen? There will be two groups that will meet on 8 Tuesdays from July 12 – Aug 30.\nOne will be a Lunch-Hour group (12-1pm) and the other will be an Evening group (7-8pm). \nWho? Anyone who can commit to 5 of the 8 weeks and to read the book prior to the discussion. We want to especially encourage Redeemer’s leadership. There are only 30 spots in each group. \nRSVP: To reserve your seat at the table\, please choose the group you’d like to participate in\, and register. \nTuesday Lunch-Hour Group (12-1pm)\nTuesday Evening Group (7-8pm)

SUMMARY:Second Saturday Serve
DESCRIPTION:Vision: Sharing Christ’s love through regular & simple deeds of service.\nWe want to meet practical needs that arise inside Redeemer’s body\, in our parish\, or in our city\, and we want to build a habit of service among Redeemer’s members by organizing monthly service opportunities. \nJoin us for July’s serve day. This month we want to care for the wonderful physical property space the Lord has allowed us to use. We are focusing on stewarding the church property by taking time to reorganize the kitchen and various storage spaces at the church. We will also have a team in the Broadmoor Garden\, cultivating. \nWe’ll need people who love to organize and have good spatial sense. We’ll need people who like to move heavy things. We’ll need people who don’t mind taking loads of things to donate or repurpose. We need people who enjoy gardening (or want to learn more!) Families with kids of all ages are welcome! \nContact: Email Levi Gill at: levijgill@gmail.com or call/text at: 970.946.8467.\nSign up on the form below.
\nSign up to be placed 1 of 3 different teams headed to serve families touched with disability in our community on Saturday\, May 14. Once you complete the form\, you’ll be placed on a team and given full instructions and the address for the service opportunity. \nYou can sign up for a morning shift: 9:00 – 11:30am or an afternoon shift: 1:30 – 4:00pm. These opportunities are good for the whole family! \nTwo of the teams will visit families where the goal will be primarily making relational connections and finding ways to advocate for the family. We will bring along some food and show Christ’s love through quality time and encouragement. These connections will lead to other\, more tangible ways to help in the future. \nOne of the teams will be helping to widen a bedroom doorway so that a wheelchair can fit through in addition to being an encouraging and joyful presence in the home. \nAll of the projects will require a humble posture and a desire to learn. Although we want to be a blessing\, be prepared to get blessed and also to be challenged. Stepping into the world of those who’ve been touched by disability will alter your perspective. \n\n \n \n Second Saturday Serve\n RSVP to join us on the second Saturday of the month as we serve our members and the community through ministry of deed! \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Cell Phone(Required)How many adults?(Required)How many kids?(Required)Ages of kids(Required)Where would you like to serve?(Required)\n \n Kitchen\n \n \n Closets\n \n \n Garden\n What time can you serve?(Required)\n \n 9:00-10:30am\n \n \n 10:30am-12:00pm\n \n \n 9:00am-12:00pm\n What gifts to you bring relevant to the tasks at hand? SUMMARY:Marriage Seminar: Made for Connection\, May 13 & 14
DESCRIPTION:What\nWe were made for connection\, and God intended marriage to be the greatest human expression of connection. Yet\, we can sometimes feel lonely in our marriages\, more like ships passing in the night than intimate allies. This seminar will focus on re-connecting after big or small ruptures that are part of every marriage\, with practical strategies for staying connected even in the midst of conflict and challenges. \nAbout Our Speakers\nEd and Emily’s life together has been anything but ordinary. After Ed lost his first wife to cancer\, leaving him with four young children to raise\, he hired Emily to be their nanny\, and then took her off payroll and married her. They began their journey together in Kosciusko\, MS where Ed was the senior minister of First Presbyterian Church\, then spent almost a decade in Brasov\, Romania\, leading a church planting team for Mission to the World. Since leaving Romania\, they continue to invest in church planting and missions as they work together in leadership development and renewal with pastors\, church leaders\, church planters and missionaries and their wives. They live in Jackson\, Mississippi where they have launched Kingstone Partners\, a non-profit ministry designed to serve\, strengthen\, and support gospel-rooted leaders for the resilience and flourishing of their marriages and ministries.\nTogether\, they have lived the gospel reality that our stories are both broken and beautiful\, and they delight in helping couples look to Jesus as they wrestle through this reality in their own lives. Twenty-five years later\, life is still complicated\, crazy\, and yet wonderful\, as they continue following Jesus on the winding path of marriage and life in ministry.\nThey now enjoy the “party of two” (empty nest)\, which includes lots of travel together\, eating whatever they want for dinner\, and a lot less laundry. They also enjoy welcoming their four children\, their spouses\, and their four precious grandchildren into their home and lives.\nEd is a graduate of Columbia Bible College; Reformed Theological Seminary (MDiv); and Westminster Seminary in California (DMin). Emily is a graduate of the University of Mississippi. \nSchedule\nEd and Emily Hartman will lead 20 couples (limited space – sign up soon!) through 4 sessions:\n1) The Roots of a Healthy Marriage: Made for Connection\n2) Thorns and Thistles: Conflict and Communication\n3) Watering and Fertilizing: Surviving or Thriving\n4) Bearing Fruit: Marriage as Mission\nWhen: Friday\, May 13\, 6:00-8:30pm & Saturday\, May 14\, 8:30-11:30am.\nWhere: Redeemer Church Fellowship Hall\nAdditional Information: Food and childcare provided.\nContact: Zack Owens at: zowens@redeemerjackson.com or (601) 941-4166\nPlease sign up for the seminar and childcare below: \n\n \n \n \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Spouse's Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Number of Children for Nursery (0-3)(Required)Number of Children (k4-5th)(Required)\n Submit \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ\n \n \n

SUMMARY:2022 Missions Month Ends with Guest Speaker Rev. Cyril Chavis\, Jr.
DESCRIPTION:2022 Missions Conference\nTheme: Pray\, Give\, Go\nSpeaker: Rev. Cyril Chavis\, Jr.\nSermon Text & Title: Mark 9:30-50 “Stand Here. Serve God. Be Small.” \nJoin us for the last day of Redeemer’s Missions Month\nSun\, Mar 27: Missions Sunday with Guest Speaker Rev. Cyril Chavis\, Jr.\nAbout Rev. Cyril Chavis\, Jr.\nRev. Cyril Chavis\, Jr. is from Virginia Beach\, VA. During his first year at the University of Virginia\, Cyril recognized that he was a sinner who was rebelling against a God who has a glorious design for his life. Cyril recognized his desperate need and gave his life to Jesus Christ\, experiencing the life transforming grace of God. Soon afterwards\, he sensed an inward call to ministry and immediately pursued the training necessary to sharpen his ministerial gifting. After being licensed to preach in Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Shelton Murphy\, becoming a church planting resident at Portico Church\, and graduating from UVA with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies\, Cyril began his formal training\, pursuing a Master of Divinity at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson. During his seminary training\, he became a ministry intern under Rev. Elbert McGowan. After graduating seminary in 2017 and leading RUF at Jackson State for a total of four years\, Cyril and his wife\, Jenell\, moved to DC in 2019 to start an RUF at Howard University. When Cyril is not at work in ministry\, you can find him hanging out with Jenell\, goofing off with his kids (Aria\, Elise\, and Kyrie)\, or laughing way too hard with friends and family!
