Redeemer Church has many ministries to serve the needs of our people and the community, but also for the involvement of the people. All of our members are encouraged to involve themselves in the lives of others by means of the various ministries of the church.
Redeemer also supports many ministry organizations and missionaries around the world with financial resources and by sending our members to various locations to assist these ministries.
Sunday School
Redeemer Church has been blessed by God with a number of gifted teachers, many of whom are professionally trained. Our Sunday school runs from 9:45 a.m. to 10:35 a.m., followed by 25 minutes of fellowship time over coffee in the Gathering Area, located in the west wing of the church. Children and adult classes run concurrently, and most are located in the west wing of the church building. Children’s classes are located on the second floor while most of the adult classes are found on the first floor. There is a nursery provided during Sunday school for your convenience.
Our adult Sunday school classes operate on an interest basis versus an age or life-cycle basis. Our philosophy of Christian education states that each semester our Sunday school will offer classes in five possible areas: 1) Foundations, introducing visitors and new members to the Reformed faith and the distinctives of Redeemer Church; 2) Bible, knowing and applying God’s Word; 3) Theology, knowing and applying doctrinal truths of Scripture; 4) Ministry Skills, equipping God’s people for ministry; and 5) Practical Living, practicing Godly living in everyday life. For example, the Bible class might feature a book study from the Old or New Testament, or Bible themes such as “The Bible as Literature.” That same semester you could find a class on “Parenting,” “Marriage Enrichment,” “Christian Womanhood,” etc.
We regularly offer a Pastor’s Inquirers Class, required for all who are planning on becoming members or associate members of Redeemer. The class is recommended to anyone who would like to know more about the vision and the distinctive ministry of Redeemer Church and our Reformed traditions.
Redeemer’s Christian Education Department publishes a list of classes, with the names of the teachers, a short description of the class, and its location. This brochure is located on the website and in the Narthex of the Sanctuary.
Evangelism Training
The first promise that Jesus Christ made while He was on earth in human form was “I will make you fishers of men.” His last command before ascending into heaven was “Go make disciples of all nations.” At Redeemer, we believe it is very important that all Christians are equipped to witness to their families, friends, and co-workers. For that reason we offer all our members evangelism training at various times during the year. Watch for classes taught during the Sunday school hour to help you learn more about sharing your faith with others.
Music
The music ministry of the church is growing. There are many opportunities for ministry.
Choir
Our adult choir ministers to God’s people and leads them in praise of our God during our public worship services and at special events during the year.
Men’s Ensemble
Our men’s ensemble generally sings once a month during the evening service and requires a smaller time commitment to the music ministry.
Womens Ensemble
The ladies sing once a month in the evening service and also sing at various special events.
Instrumental Ensemble
If you play an instrument and would like to be a part of the worship of Redeemer using this gift, this ministry is for you. The ensemble will play at various times throughout the year. Instrumentalists are also encouraged to contact our music director and offer their musical gifts to enhance the music at our regular worship services.
If you are interested in any area of the music ministry of Redeemer, please contact our music director, Paula Granger.
Women’s Ministry
All adult ladies are invited to get plugged into the Women’s Ministry of Redeemer. Involvement allows Redeemer women to support one another, encourage each other’s spiritual growth, and to serve the church in various ways.
Through Women’s Ministry, our women have many opportunities to grow, to learn, to serve, and to enjoy the fellowship of women of diverse backgrounds, cultures and generations. Small group Bible studies, one-on-one discipleship and mentoring, outreach and in-reach ministries in which to serve are offered. There are also local, regional, and national conferences that are designed to develop lasting friendships, personal growth, and spiritual maturity and to promote personal and corporate ministry.
Weekly Bible Studies
Seniors Bible Study
A group of senior citizens meets on Tuesday mornings at 11:00 a.m. for Bible study and a potluck lunch provided by all the participants. Everyone from the community is invited to this study, which meets in the Gathering Area of the west wing at Redeemer.
Men’s Bible Study
Every Friday morning, at 6:30 a.m., adult men of all ages are invited to meet for Bible study in the Gathering Area, located in the west wing of Redeemer Church. This Bible study for men has met together for over 20 years and is open to visitors. This study provides men of Redeemer Church, Trinity Presbyterian Church and the community with a time for breakfast, study, mutual sharing and prayer.
All during the year new opportunities arise for groups to gather in small groups for Bible and book studies. One just needs to ask the leaders of our Women’s Ministry, the pastoral staff and church office staff or consult the website for dates, times and locations.
Growth Groups
It is our desire that every member of Redeemer be a member of a Growth Group. Growth Groups are small groups of 10-15 adults, regularly meeting in the homes of our members throughout the metro Jackson area.
Purpose: Our primary goal for Growth Groups is to experience Christ in our midst in His presence and power. We want Him to be at work by His Spirit ministering to us and through us to one another to the end that people are cared for and encouraged to live God-pleasing lives. We want Christ to transform and change our lives.
Format: Even though each group will have its own personality and will differ some in the make-up of its membership, groups will follow the same basic schedule, generally meeting from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. A typical meeting will usually include a time of greeting and worship, Bible study, a time of sharing, and a time for kingdom-centered prayer. The Bible study will be centered on the prior week’s sermon to allow us to better apply the Word of God to our lives.
We believe that involvement in a Growth Group is crucial for the spiritual maturity of every member of Redeemer, and it will be beneficial in finding one’s place of service in our church family.
To find the location of a Growth Group near you, check the list of Growth Groups in our bulletin or go to the website. You can also call the church office, and we can introduce you to a group where you can begin to grow with us.
